Dear State Archers of California,
It is with heavy hearts that the Board of Directors has to inform you that the California State JOAD Indoor Championships and California State Indoor Championships in Chula Vista and Sacramento are canceled for the 2021 season. Both host sites diligently worked to gain approval from their respective governing bodies. Unfortunately, the State of California Health officials have not been willing to consider approving archery events even with strong COVID plans in place. The state’s mandated tier system will not allow any indoor sporting events until we hit the Orange tier in that county where the event will be held. Currently both counties (San Diego and Sacramento) are in the Purple tier and would need to improve two tiers. The timing required to move between tiers is not in favorable alignment with the dates of the tournaments. We, as your Board of Directors, do not want to gamble on the uncertainty of the situation changing. Our decision to cancel was with the archer’s best interest in mind. If we wait to cancel, archers who desire or need to shoot Nationals may miss out on going to another state. We also took into consideration your travel expenses and wanted to give you as much time as possible to cancel or reschedule.
Refunds for the California JOAD, and State Indoor Championships, minus the processing fees will be refunded. Please allow our tournament hosts time to process the refunds. For those of you who also registered for the National Indoor tournament, you may transfer your National event portion of the fees to another state’s event. If you elect to go to another state’s event, please reach out to [email protected] to have your fees transferred.
For a list of available events, please visit www.usarchery.org/events/national-tournaments/indoor nationals.
As an alternative, we are looking into a virtual State Indoor tournament and should have more information on this within the next couple of weeks.
Again, we are deeply saddened to have to cancel another event and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
